Comic Con has always been known to be held in San Diego and New York City, but New Jersey held its very own Comic Con, known as the Garden State Comic Fest, which took place on Saturday June 23rd and Sunday June 24th, 2023, at the Mena Sports Arena in Morristown New Jersey.
As New Jersey once again showed their own Comic Con off to thousands of people from all over the state and local surroundings with their guest celebrities, such as, Legendary Baseball player Dwight Gooden from the “New York Mets” (1984 – 1994), Dan Fogler from the “Fantastic Beasts” film, Brett Azar from the NBC’s hit show “Young Rock with Dwayne Johnson”, Toni Ann Gisondi from the film “Annie”, Rosanne Sorrentino who played Pepper opposite of Annie, WWE Wrestling Manager Icon Jimmy Hart, Ari Lehman from the original “Friday the 13th“, Keone Young from movies such as Jake Long and the American Dragon and Star Wars, April Bowlby from sitcom “Two and a Half Men”, Joivan Wade from the HBO Max series “Doom Patrol” along with many others, including the hit television cartoon The Simpsons very own Walt Simonson.
While we enjoy such comic cons as the Garden State Comic Fest, we must also enjoy its history. In 2013, Dave O’Hare founded the Garden State Comic Fest. As a comic art collector himself, he has always had that dream of putting on a show that will showcase his true passion for the art of comics. To think, it all began off a $20 dollar poker bet that allowed him to start bringing his dream to reality. And that is just how the Garden State Comic Fest was born. Yes! By a simple $20 Poker Bet. When asked how he felt about winning that bet, O’Hare replied, “There could not have been a better win in history for him”.
Since his start of the Garden State Comic Fest, O’Hare has been joined by Eric Bellomo, General Manager for the Garden State Comic Fest, Danielle Pierson, Assistant Event Manager, Bill O’Donnell, Artist Alley Coordinator, James Hannon, Charity/Cos-Player Coordinator, and nonother than Wyatt (the pup), Mascot/Sidekick.
Many comic cons offer huge venues, many artists, and even guest celebrities, but the Garden State Comic Fest offers a smaller venue, few artists, and even few guest celebrities, but all of that brings in a personal connection with the attendees. This allows the attendees the opportunity to share stories and connections with the artists and even guest celebrities. Less lines for their photo opportunities and meet and greets.
So, in 2024, remember that the Garden State Comic Fest is the place to be.
